“Snow Day”

While schools in the area were closed yesterday because of the windchills and snow, we kept busy learning and having fun.  We started the day by going sledding.

The girls made the fancy sounding “Tire sur la neige“, otherwise known as maple snow candy.   We made half into snow candy and then whipped the rest into maple sugar candy.

Using the pan they boiled the syrup in, they made a custard and made “snow” ice cream.  They cooled the custard and instead of putting it into an ice cream maker, they poured it into a bowl that sat on some salt covered snow and beat it with a whisk. They let it sit a little bit and then whisked it again until they considered it “done”.

By then it was getting to be dinner time and the sun was slowly doing down.  Andrea offered to model so I could try boiling water photos again.

We enjoyed spinach ravioli that Andrea and Megan made fresh, our “snow” ice cream and then enjoyed Daddy reading out loud.  Andrea commented that it was the busiest day off she has had in awhile, but she enjoyed it very much.

I appreciate your comments!
