Soccer Weekend

Last weekend was full of soccer!  We have had three or four children playing games before in one weekend, but never had we had such a crazy schedule before! With both girls on traveling teams, we do not have a regular schedule, and last week was a full one.

It started out as a normal week.  We had our normal practice nights.  We had been asked to bring snacks for one game and decided to sign up the other kids to bring snacks for the same weekend–before knowing what the week would look like.  I helped Andrea and Audrey make 5 batches of cookies so we would have enough giant cookies to share after games. We froze them and took them out as needed.

SoccerBetween Thursday and Tuesday, Andrea played in four games, half of the regular season games! During Thursday’s game, she twisted her ankle, but got up and continued to play.  She returned home with a swollen and bruised ankle. On Friday, she refused to walk on it but we iced it and wrapped it everyday, and she was able to play in all her weekend games.

Andrea is improving immensely and getting to be a stronger player.  She still has a lot to learn, but you can often hear her laughter while playing the game.

AudreygameAudrey only had three games over the weekend.  She has a lot to learn, but her coach is willing to push her, and Audrey loves the challenge.  She struggles with sprinting, but she is trying and we are seeing improvement.

AdrianOn Saturday, Adrian had his first game.  He surprised us all, including himself, by making the very first goal within minutes of the game starting!  He is hoping to make more goals, and he has improved a lot since last year.  It will be a great season for him.

Thursday night we had a scheduling conflict and Allan took Andrea to a game while I took Audrey to practice. Perhaps Allan and I are crazy, but we went to every other game together!  It was fun to watch the kids try their best.  We had a little time to relax and enjoyed talking with each other too.

It has been very windy here the last few days!WindWho Has Seen the Wind?
By Christina Rossetti (last verse by Me!)

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when young girls hair flies behind
The wind is passing by.

Seven soccer games + 1 twisted and swollen ankle + 5 chapters read out loud traveling + 34 GIANT cookies shared + 1 first goal of the season + 4 wins + 3 losses + 5 sun(wind?) kissed faces  = one extremely busy soccer weekend!

More informations coming…once we have a chance to catch our breath!

Scavenger Hunt

We have been on the lookout for spring flowers.  We find most of them in the woods, but we found a few in our yard and a neighbor’s yard. Our goal was to discover and name as many different types of flowers that we could.

I did not take photographs of all the flowers we found. We have also discovered tulips, Narcissuss, assorted colored violets plus others we did not know the names of.

How many of these have you discovered this spring?

Officially Spring

SnakeIt is officially spring around here.  Mark and Adrian were outside cleaning up the yard while the girls worked inside. Mark let us know that they found the first snake of the year in our back yard. Everyone went outside to see it, and then the boys tried to catch it.  It was a very aggressive garter snake, so they decided to leave it alone.

Audrey and MeganA long time ago, I had a big brother who was allowed to ride his bike to many places I was not allowed to ride to.  Occasionally, he let me ride on the cross bar and we would go to Sam and Ellies, a candy store to far away for me to go to by myself.  I would have $.25 to buy treats with.  I could spend $.15 on candy, and $.10 on pretzel rods or other treats.  Often we would bring home an ice cube chocolate for Momma, one of her favorite candies.

Sometimes, Joe would even take me to Burger Chef and treat me to something special.Bike  Fries and tarter sauce are still one of my favorite treats, though I am not sure if that is Joe’s fault or Mom’s.

Today was a beautiful day for riding bikes.  I let the girls ride up and down the road for awhile.  Then we put Megan on the crossbars, just to see if she would enjoy it.  Of course, she thought it was wonderful.

When Mark got home from science class, Audrey persuaded him to take her for a spin. They did not go very far, but they had a lot of fun. I sort of wish that there was a nearby store that they could ride to and enjoy their own sibling dates.
