Momma’s Break

mommas-breakThe last few days have been extra crazy. Tonight I was told to relax and not do anything but enjoy some quiet.  So I did my favorite things; found a good book, made a cup of tea, lit a candle and went outside. I read outside for over an hour until my feet got cold.

Allan is so wonderful.  He has been busy with changes at work and comes home to fix everything that is falling apart in the kitchen. He helps Mark with math that is way beyond my ability. He needs a quiet evening on his own, but he tells me to relax . He knows how to make me feel special and loved!

Saturday was Dad McGuire’s birthday. He wanted to get his chimney fixed for his present, so Allan and one of his brothers went to help Dad.  Then everyone who lived close enough, came by for a surprise party.

Dinner was good and the cake was excellent–we have some great bakers in the family!  But the best time was watching everyone interact.

The cousins, no matter the age, played a game of baseball following rules the girls made up to make it a more even game. Nothing could make it really even; the three boys were mostly older than the four girls on the other team and the babies kept switching teams or being “ghost” players or base holders. So, the rules got sillier as the game went along. The adults enjoyed the game, but mostly sat around talking about whatever.

Happy Birthday Opa!

Rodeo

CowboysThe kids earned free tickets to the fair during this year’s summer reading program. We decided to go during the rodeo.

Allan got off work early and we watched the afternoon rodeo before roaming. Since everyone enjoyed the first show, we went back for the later one. Both rodeos were fun, but pre-rodeo pictures told the best story.

Christmas Concert New Horizons Band

DaddyDaddy plays french horn in the New Horizons Band.  This weekend they had their traditional Christmas concert. It was fun listening to some traditional Christmas songs and hearing some new arrangements.  The band did a very good job. I think it was the best concert they have done that I have been to.

Soccer Weekend

GirlsAndrea has enjoyed playing soccer this fall.  She plays outside defense (right fullback). Her job is to keep the ball away from the goalie.

It has been fun watching her improve this year.  Andrea does not mind falling too much and is willing to run into situations where others may hold back. She has been practicing running faster and is able to overtake opponents more often. She also likes to come up to mid line from an angle and kick the ball down field.  AndreaHer kicking is getting stronger and she can send the ball flying much better than she did at the beginning of the season.

This weekend, Andrea had her fall soccer tournament. It was a long weekend for Andrea, but she enjoyed herself. Her team did a wonderful job!  They were undefeated for all their games (8-1, 2-1, 2-0 and 2-1) and came home with first place trophies in their division!

On Father’s Day we went to Allan’s parents house.  For the first time in a long time, the entire family, except for Beth who was sick, was together.  It was a great afternoon!
