Many years ago, when we just had Mark, a family invited us to their house for dinner. We enjoyed our time and over the years, our friendship grew.
It was wonderful being able to spend a few days with Dave, Kristi, Cardin, Reece, and Casteel and just be together.
After a lot of rain and a short thunderstorm yesterday, we woke up to snow this morning.
It was a crazy year for sap, but we ended up with a lot of wonderful treats!
The first is maple sap, which is good as a drink or added to chili. Then syrup, maple cream, candy and then maple sugar!
The weather has warmed up. Audrey noticed this raccoon hanging around our sap buckets this afternoon. She tried chasing it away by banging a spoon in a pan. It only ran up our maple tree and then took a nap. It is still enjoying its cozy napping space.
While it slept, we made sure all the lids were tight on the sap buckets and then put a heavy brick on each one. We do not want a nosy raccoon to ruin the sap we collected!
I do not think I could ever get tired of watching the bluebirds.
The bluebirds are coming up to our porch and enjoying our feeders this year. They are very skittish, so often fly away as we walk by the windows. I hope they keep coming!
We also watched a huge woodpecker for a little while!
I discovered a new recipe for bubbles. While I like the other recipe best for summer days, I think this new recipe is better for frozen bubbles!
If you want to try, the recipe is 1 cup warm water, 2 Tbl dish soap, 2 Tbl corn syrup and 2 Tbl sugar.
The sky was clear for a short while today.
After many days of below zero weather, I took the kids to see if the river had frozen over. I knew it probably was not, but was still hoping 🙂 The only time we have seen it completely frozen was in 2014.
Megan thought the ice was fascinating. She made a snow angel and admired how the river looked through the ice. Then she just sat quietly and watched the geese for awhile. I wonder her reaction if the river had been completely iced over.
This hawk has been scaring my smaller birds away. But isn’t he beautiful?
